1.1 Introduction to S2 Tower

The S2 Tower Controller rating introduces students to aerodrome control operations within the Khaleej vACC.

At this level, controllers are expected to manage aircraft operating on and around the runway, issue takeoff and landing clearances, sequence traffic, maintain situational awareness, and coordinate with adjacent positions.

1.1.1 Purpose of S2 Training

S2 training prepares students to safely and confidently control a Tower position during normal operations.

Students should develop the ability to:

  • Manage runway operations
  • Issue correct instructions and clearances
  • Sequence arriving and departing traffic
  • Handle both IFR and VFR aircraft
  • Coordinate with Ground and Approach
  • Respond safely to abnormal situations

1.1.2 Expected Standard

An S2 controller should be able to operate a Tower position with limited mentor intervention.

The student should demonstrate: - Safe judgement - Correct phraseology - Strong situational awareness
